Brief Case : harassment
  Marcia’s neighbours

Marcia and her 10-year old son were not the only black people on their estate, but for some reason faced almost continuous trouble from one particular group of boys. Marcia first tried to ignore the problem and then spoke to the boys and their parents. Nothing worked.

Eventually she complained to the council who investigated the case and obtained a court order requiring the parents of one of the boys to leave their house, which they rented from the council. The boy’s parents appealed, saying it was not their offensive behaviour but that of their son. The appeal was dismissed. The judge said that Marcia and her son should not be deprived of their rights just because the parents could not control their son.
