Lesya came to Britain from Russia as an asylum seeker with her family five years ago.
She had no English, but hard work and brains got her five As at A level and a place at Oxford University to read philosophy. But because her naturalisation application was not settled, she had to turn the place down, as she could not afford the high fees that overseas students are required to pay.
