a watertight case Jenny and Mike needed a roof repair as water was leaking into their attic room every time it rained. They got a local builder to look at it, and he promised to make the repairs needed and leave it watertight, with a ‘guarantee’. He did the job, and they paid him £450, but three weeks later it rained heavily again, and water was still coming in. They had great difficulty getting the builder back, and when he did come, he was very unhelpful. They wrote to him asking him for a refund or to finish the job properly. He did not reply. So they took their case to the small claims court, which decided the roofer should repay the £450 plus the cost of bringing the legal action. |
